Jessica recently contacted us because she needed her fascia updated on her dormer extension.
As a returning customer, Jessica chose us because she knew that our team would complete the work to a high standard, giving her peace of mind that she wouldn’t need to worry about replacing it for a while.
What We Did
Having worked on the property before, we had the advantage of understanding access to the fascia and the shape and size of the dormer extension.
Therefore, the first thing we did before arriving on-site to complete the work was arrange for scaffolding to be erected.
With the scaffolding in place, we were then able to access the exterior of the extension. Our team started the work by stripping off their failing ply and clad with plastic.
It is common for plywood used in the construction of fascias to degrade due to exposure to the elements. In this case, the ply was no longer structurally sound, and the fascia was showing visual signs of failing.
The process of replacing the fascia was two-fold because we replaced the material underneath the guttering as well as the forward-facing fascia that sits underneath the lip of the guttering.
In order to complete the first part, we needed to remove the guttering. This was a straightforward process as it was a plastic guttering, meaning it was lightweight and easy to move.
With the guttering out of the way, we got to work removing the old plywood fascia and replacing it.
We faced a challenge when doing this, as some of the timber around the window had rotted.
Once we had removed the rotting timber, plywood and old clad with plastic, we were able to start replacing it all.
The first step was to replace the timber structure around the window.
Then, we fitted the new plywood as a backing material behind the fascia board. This provided additional support and a secure surface for when we attached the fascia.
With the plywood in place, we added a white plastic fascia board, which matched the windows in three areas: Under the guttering, forward-facing under the guttering lip and down the side of the window.
Finally, we reattached the guttering.

The End Result
The finished project resulted in a fully weatherproof and aesthetically pleasing fascia that matched the look of the rest of the dormer extension.
